Furniture Redirection Program
At Jape Furnishing Superstore, we believe furniture can do more than furnish a home, it can help make a difference.
Through this program, we work alongside local community organisations to redirect pre-loved furniture away from landfill and into the homes of Territorians who need it most.
It brings together two commitments that are important to us: supporting our local community and reducing furniture waste. By extending the life of quality furniture, we can help create better outcomes for both our community and the environment.
How it started
What began as a furniture removal service has grown into a community and sustainability initiative.
When we began removing old furniture from customersβ homes, we noticed that many of the pieces were still in good condition, with plenty of life left in them. They were no longer needed in one home, but they werenβt necessarily ready for landfill.
As a locally owned business, we saw an opportunity to find a better outcome. Through our connections across the Territory, we began working directly with local charities and community organisations at a grassroots level to find new homes for suitable furniture.
Working together for our community
As a locally owned business, being part of the Territory means more to us than simply doing business here. We believe in supporting the community that has supported us, and this program is one way we can make a meaningful contribution.
Our Furniture Redirection Program builds on that commitment by working with organisations that understand the needs of our community and can connect available furniture with individuals and families going through challenging circumstances.
A bed to sleep in. A dining table to gather around. A sofa where a family can sit together.
These everyday items can make a real difference, helping shape an empty space into a comfortable, functional home and providing people with greater stability, independence, and confidence as they move forward.
Community Partner Spotlight: Anglicare
Anglicare NTβs Garaworra Transitional Housing Program provides transitional accommodation and case management support to families experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. Many families enter accommodation with limited belongings and financial resources, making access to essential furniture an important part of creating a safe, comfortable, and welcoming home as they work towards stable housing and greater independence.
Making a difference together
Through our Furniture Redirection Program, donated furniture has helped Anglicare NT furnish multiple homes and provide essential household items to Territorians who may otherwise struggle to afford them.
