A Message from Our Team

At Jape Furnishing Superstore, your family's safety is our highest priority. We want to ensure that every piece of furniture you purchase from us not only enhances your home but also provides a secure and stable environment for everyone, especially children. To help you make safe choices and use our products correctly, we've compiled this important information about furniture stability.

Understanding the National Toppling Furniture Standard

As a proud Australian business, we adhere to the national Consumer Goods (Toppling Furniture) Information Standard 2024. This mandatory standard, which is administered and enforced in the Northern Territory by NT Consumer Affairs, requires us to provide clear and consistent safety warnings about the dangers of toppling furniture.

The standard applies to freestanding storage units that are 686mm or taller, as well as entertainment units of any height. These items, if not secured, can pose a serious tip-over risk, particularly to young children who may climb on them.

To comply with this standard and, more importantly, to help keep you safe, we ensure that every relevant product is supplied with the following:

  • A permanent warning label attached to the furniture itself.
  • Clear safety information within the assembly instructions and user manuals.
  • Anchoring hardware and instructions on how to properly secure the item to a wall.

Our Safety Advice for Your Home

While we provide the tools and information, it's vital that you take the following steps to prevent tip-over incidents:

  • Always Anchor

Use the provided anchoring hardware to securely fasten furniture to a wall.

  • Keep Heavy Items Low

Store your heaviest items in the bottom drawers or on the lowest shelves to create a more stable base.

  • Avoid Placing Attractive Items on Top

Do not place TVs, toys, or other items that might tempt a child to climb on top of furniture.

  • Use Drawer Stops and Interlocks

Look for furniture with built-in safety features like drawer stops to prevent them from coming all the way out, or interlocks that prevent more than one drawer from being opened at a time.
